There are many opportunities available for a CDL bus driver. Add a CHP special certificate and your hourly rate goes up.


School Bus Driver

School bus drivers pick up students at stops along established routes and drop them off at school. They may also transport students and faculty to special events, such as field trips or sporting events.

Earning opportunities by the company hiring the estimates range from $15/hour to $38/hour depending on location. 


Coach Driver

Motorcoach bus drivers usually transport passengers on chartered trips and tours that may last up to several days. While transporting tour groups, these drivers make sure all passengers are comfortable, on schedule and accounted for when boarding the bus after each stop. They also handle maintenance checks and proper upkeep on the vehicle. These transportation experts must have very flexible schedules and be willing to spend extended periods of time away from home.

Earning opportunities by the company hiring the estimates range from $12/hour to $28/hour. Tips are possible. 


Youth Bus Driver

​​Youth bus drivers are similar to school bus drivers. They pick up students at stops along established routes and drop them off at school. They may also transport students and faculty to special events, such as field trips or sporting events. Typically this is in vans.

Earning opportunities by the company hiring the estimates range from $15/hour to $19/hour depending on location. 


​Limousine Driver

Limousine drivers pick up clients and drive them to events and destinations such as weddings, meetings, celebrations, hotels and transportation centers. ... They are responsible for keeping their vehicles clean and stocking limousines with special requests from customers. They are typically placed in many types of vehicles. 

Ranges from $9/hour to $15/hour depending on location. Frequent roles include specific routes and activity trips ("Field Trips"). Tips are usually included and range from $2/hour to $17/hour.

Airport Shuttle Driver

Shuttle bus drivers must arrive to work on time, drive their vehicles following a set schedule or route, and, often, wear a company uniform. They must gain familiarity with their route by studying maps if necessary and reading reports. When they drive, they maintain constant contact with the dispatcher and keep track of passenger pickups and drop-offs as necessary. When passengers have questions, drivers must respond in a polite and friendly manner, deal with any complaints, and help with luggage as needed.
